NA Gins / Botanical Spirits

Optimist Botanicals Bright

Menthol, citrus and light ammonia on the nose. Mint, herbs and some astringency on the palate. It felt at home mixed in a gin and tonic category and we felt

Abstinence Cape Citrus nonalcoholic spirit

Abstinence Cape Citrus

Spicy, ginger nose. We tasted with (light) tonic as recommended and found the citrus and spice flavors very light and delicate, almost overpowered even by the light tonic. We thought

Abstinence Cape Floral

A unanimous panel favorite. Floral forward with strong geranium and rose notes which were balanced enough to appeal even to floral-averse panelists. A light tonic brought out a delicate complexity.

Tweedle Botanicals

A unanimous panel favorite. Cloudy color with a slight anise, root beer nose, almost medicinal. Our panel noted balanced flavors including citrus/bitter grapefruit, wintergreen, and anise. A substantial weight coats

Pentire Seaward

A subtle, clear spirit with warming spice. Our panel found it complex, bright, and interesting while some said it was too subtle.

Pentire Adrift

A bit spicy and very herbal, almost brackish. Our panel detected basil notes. Especially good for those who enjoy building strong flavors into a cocktail or for an herb-forward martini.

Cut Above Gin

A floral forward gin that doesn’t get lost in tonic. A favorite of the panelists who like their gin on the floral side.

Monday Gin

Most likely among the gins to fool us into thinking it was alcoholic. Slightly floral but with plenty of juniper, it’s ideal for adding to gin-based cocktails. A panel favorite.

DhŌs Gin Free

Notes of juniper and menthol for a “burn” sensation. This was a favorite of our panelists who enjoy gin on the strong juniper side.

Ritual Gin Alternative

Herby, almost minty with almost no juniper notes. Most of the panelists felt it didn’t taste like gin.
